LED Driver Calculator

Tell us about your LED strip or fixtures and we'll size the SLAMMO drivers, the power supplies and the cable — then the DMX or DALI control to run them, with an indicative parts list you can save as a PDF or send to us to confirm.

Tell us about your LED

We'll size the SLAMMO drivers, the power supply and the cable — then the controller to run it.

channels per zone
from the strip datasheet
must match the strip (V5: 7–48V, V6: ≤24V)
one run of strip
each controlled separately
driver → strip, for Vdrop
V6 for switchboards · V5 for enclosures / outdoors
how the drivers are controlled
SLAMMO V6DIN-mounted (4 poles, IP20) · 6 outputs · 7–24 V · up to 360 W at 24 V · 6 A per output · DMX or DALI version
SLAMMO V54 outputs · 7–48 V · PCB/OEM, IP54 or IP67 · up to 600 / 480 / 450 W at 24 V · 15 / 12 / 10 A per output · DMX, DALI or DSI

On Auto we use the V6 where it fits and the V5 in IP67 otherwise — or choose the driver and enclosure yourself, here or afterwards. What the terms mean

Driver & power design

Indicative — change any option and everything recalculates
Basis: I = W/V; %Vdrop = 2·I·L·R/V (3% target; smallest passing cable auto-selected). Driver limits from the SLAMMO V5 and V6 manuals for ambient below 40 °C — total watts and amps per output; at 48 V the 24 V wattage is used. PSU loaded to ≤80% of rating; ≤6 SLAMMOs per PSU; one PSU per group. DMX: each SLAMMO takes its full footprint (V5 4 ch, V6 6 ch, default personality); >32 SLAMMOs on a DMX line needs a splitter. DALI: one address per output in use, ≤55 per line. Inductive max length L = K/I is approximate (K measured on the SLAMMO V5). SLAMMO V5 = 4ch (7–48V); V6 = 6ch DIN (7–24V).

How the LED Driver Calculator works

Enter your LED strip's watts per metre and voltage, the length of each zone, how many zones there are and how far the cable runs from driver to strip. The calculator then:

The result is indicative — send it to us and an engineer will confirm the specification and quote. Driver ratings come from the SLAMMO V5 and SLAMMO V6 manuals.

Terms used

Zone
One run of LED strip or fixtures that's controlled on its own. Each zone uses one SLAMMO output per colour channel — RGBW takes 4, RGB 3, tunable white 2, single colour 1.
SLAMMO V6 / V5
Our constant-voltage LED drivers. The V6 is DIN-mounted (4 poles, IP20) with 6 outputs for 7–24 V LED. The V5 has 4 outputs for 7–48 V LED and comes as a PCB/OEM board or in an IP54 or IP67 enclosure.
Load limits
Each driver is checked twice: total watts (V6 360 W; V5 600 W PCB, 480 W IP54, 450 W IP67, all at 24 V) and current on any one output (V6 6 A; V5 15 / 12 / 10 A), from the manuals for ambient below 40 °C. If a zone is too big, split it into shorter zones.
HLG power supply & % load
The Meanwell HLG supply (CISPR15 compliant) that powers the SLAMMOs. The % is how much of its rating is used — we keep it under 80%, with no more than six SLAMMOs per supply and never two supplies in parallel.
Voltage drop
The share of the LED voltage lost in the cable between driver and strip. We pick the smallest cable that keeps it within 3%, so the far end of the strip isn't visibly dimmer.
Inductive max length
An approximate limit on cable length from the fast switching edge of the driver. In practice voltage drop almost always limits the run first.
DMX footprint & start address
How many DMX channels each SLAMMO listens to. In its default personality that's one per output — 4 on the V5, 6 on the V6 — so start addresses step by 4 or 6, restarting at 1 on each DMX line. More than 32 SLAMMOs on one line needs a DMX Splitter.
Dip-switch (V5)
The SLAMMO V5's 10-way switch, switch 1 on the left. For DMX, switch 10 is OFF and switches 1–9 add up to the start address (1, 2, 4, 8 … 256; up to 508). For DALI, only switch 10 is ON. The V6 has no dip-switch — its address is set on the front keypad.
DALI address & line
In DALI, each output in use takes one address. A DALI line takes up to 64 devices — we suggest no more than 55, for headroom — and each line needs a UBi bus power supply.
